Eagle Kazakh (Sunburst) - A smaller, folk-art version of the large floral Karabakh rugs woven in the 17th and 18thcenturies, this rug has a central medallion commonly referred as “sunburst” design.
The Trinitarias rug – in the National Gallery of Victoria has a distinctive design of a classical “Persianate” medallion floating on a field of scrolling vines, blossoms, palmettes and cloudbands.
This rug is called a Star Kazakh because of the geometric stars depicted in the field design. It appears to have been woven by a folk artist in a remote, mountainous area of the Caucasus.
